Our client is transforming how students learn in the digital age - combining AI powered tutoring with expert instruction to deliver more personalised, effective learning experiences. Designed to adapt to every learner’s pace, potential, and unique learning needs, their platform ensures truly inclusive access - empowering all students, including those who learn differently, to succeed. Every model trained and every insight surfaced helps build confidence and unlocks opportunities.
Role Overview:
The Director of Data Science will lead the team responsible for designing and deploying the machine learning systems that power personalised learning at scale - from adaptive content recommendations and real-time feedback to intelligent tutor student matching. This is a mission-critical role: your work will directly influence how thousands of students learn, progress, and succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and ML engineers working at the intersection of learning science, AI, and student success.
* Own the AI and data strategy for core student-facing products - ensuring every model serves a clear pedagogical and user outcome.
* Design and scale models that adapt to individual learner needs - from personalised feedback loops to outcome prediction and intervention.
* Champion a data-driven culture that balances statistical rigour with practical impact on learners.
* Partner with Product and UX to shape how insights and predictions are surfaced to students and tutors in meaningful ways.
* Implement frameworks for evaluating the educational impact of models — beyond accuracy and towards retention, engagement, and learning outcomes.
* Create strong feedback loops that allow the product to get smarter with every interaction
Qualifications:
* Extensive experience in data science and machine learning, including a proven track record in leading teams and initiatives.
* Proven experience deploying ML systems with real-world impact — ideally in consumer tech, edtech, or other high-scale platforms.
* Strong understanding of statistical learning, predictive modelling, and personalisation techniques.
* Experience working with experimentation and metrics frameworks that go beyond clicks and engagement to reflect real impact.
* Skilled at building cross-functional alignment between data, product, and business stakeholders.
* Passion for education and a belief in the power of technology to unlock human potential.
If you’re passionate about using data to create more equitable, effective, and personalised learning journeys - and want your work to directly impact how students learn and succeed - we’d love to hear from you.
