Our client is a fast-growing health technology company building a next-generation AI assistant designed by clinicians, for clinicians. Their platform delivers real-time, reliable support across the care continuum whilst integrating seamlessly into healthcare workflows to address the global shortage of medical professionals. Operating at the intersection of AI, infrastructure and clinical safety, they are scaling a high-performance platform used across providers, payers and pharmaceutical organisations.
Role Description:
You will join as a Senior Backend Engineer, responsible for designing and building the core systems that power a high-availability, AI-driven clinical platform.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build robust backend systems powering a clinical AI platform, including high-availability services, data pipelines and orchestration layers.
- Develop scalable, event-driven architectures to support both customer-facing features and internal platform capabilities.
- Ensure system reliability, fault tolerance and performance across distributed environments.
- Own observability, monitoring and fallback strategies to maintain high system uptime.
- Collaborate closely with AI, Clinical, QA and Security teams to deliver safe, compliant and production-ready systems.
- Implement clean, maintainable, test-driven code following modern engineering best practices.
- Validate and take ownership of AI-generated code to ensure correctness, safety and performance.
- Contribute to architectural decisions across backend systems, infrastructure and platform evolution.
Qualifications:
- Strong background in backend engineering with experience building high-scale distributed systems.
- Expertise in Python, including frameworks such as FastAPI and asynchronous programming models.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, data pipelines and scalable system design.
- Strong understanding of databases, caching, message queues and streaming systems.
- Familiarity with cloud and DevOps tooling (e.g. GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform).
- Experience working in regulated environments (e.g. healthcare, GDPR, HIPAA, SOC2) is highly beneficial.
- Deep understanding of system reliability, observability and fault tolerance.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in complex environments.
If you’re excited to build high-performance systems at the core of a clinical AI platform, shaping how healthcare is delivered through intelligent, reliable infrastructure, this is a unique opportunity to combine deep technical ownership with real-world impact.
